Your Baby’s First Sleeping Place

Your infant’s first sleeping space should be empty.  That’s right, nothing else in the crib or bassinet but your baby.

To reduce the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (S.I.D.S.) place your baby on his or her back in the crib, on a firm mattress that fits snugly in the crib, and on a snug fitted sheet.

Although they may be cute, do not use these items in the crib:

  • crib bumpers
  • stuffed animals or toys
  • sleep positioners or wedges or
  • soft bedding like pillows, blankets or comforters

The number of SIDS deaths is much higher for Black children, and studies show that Black infants are more likely to strangle and suffocate in bed.  Make sure keep your little bundle of joy safe by following the simple steps above.
